Advent: Light In The Darkness

Dec 1, 2024    Jon Welch

Dear Leesburg Family,

I hope you left yesterday different than when you came. It was a joy to gather with you as we began our Advent series, "Light in the Darkness." We explored the prophecies of Isaiah, particularly Isaiah 9:1-7, and how they pointed to the birth of Jesus Christ, our ultimate light and hope. We reflected on the statistical improbability of one man fulfilling over 300 prophecies, affirming Jesus as the promised Messiah. We also considered the historical context of Judah's darkness and how the promise of a Savior brought hope and light.

As we continue to journey through this Advent season, I encourage you to ponder these introspective questions: How can you allow the light of Christ to shine in the dark areas of your life? In what ways can you be a beacon of hope and encouragement to those around you? How does the fulfillment of prophecy in Jesus strengthen your faith in God's promises?

Our memory verse for this week is Isaiah 9:6 (ESV):

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

Let this verse remind you of the peace and guidance Jesus offers us.

This week's application challenge:

I invite you to be intentional about spreading the light of Christ. Reach out to someone who may be experiencing darkness or loneliness. Whether it's through a phone call, a handwritten note, or an act of kindness, let them know they are not alone and that the light of Jesus is with them.

In case you weren't able to be here, we not only met our goal of $200,000 for the construction of our new educational wing, we blew past it. As of yesterday morning, we have raised $260,210, with more coming in as we speak. God is good, and you are a generous and faithful congregation. Thank you for stepping up as we move forward as a church and for being a part of our community at Leesburg Christian Church. I am grateful for each of you and the ways you reflect God's love. Let's continue to seek His light and share it with the world.

Blessings,

Jon Welch
